On my 7X57R I did shoot some light reloads in 7X57 brass to get cases fireformed to chamber, then loaded the fireformed 7X57 cases with same die settings as 7X57R (adjusted to not reset shoulder back to factory location for 7X57). HOWEVER, when I tried to chamber these fireformed, rimless "7X57R" cases in a 7X57, they would not chamber until I set the shoulder back fully. Sure, this might well just be the specific chamber of my 7X57R.

Thanks.

I am all confused about these rifle cartriges. Same caliber can have 5-10 different names attached...Must be all different, otherwise why name them differently?

No. They're different cartridges. The difference isn't just rimmed vs rimless. CIP 7X57 and 7X57R standard dimensional specifications for length to shoulder and shoulder angle, although very close, are not the same. Also, CIP max pressure for the rimless is 15% higher than that of the rimmed (56,565 PSI vs 49,313 PSI). If you're loading for a drop down barrel action, you need to respect the significant difference in pressure.

Thank you gentlemen,

I found this link about the R round:
http://www.norma.cc/content.asp?Typ=59&a...=7x57R%20Mauser
It is clear now that I have to use the R round in the drilling.

The R stands for rimmed. So 7x57R is the rimmed version

R in this case is of German origin, being short for Rand, which translates to Rim.

Very good. Drinks are on me if we ever meet. That fact helped me pass a few physic's exams as my professor was big into rifles, as well as the Beatles, and offered questions for extra credit.

Kind Regards,
