I have just received a new #3 Silvers pad.

I know that it is necessary to sand the pad mating surface to remove any high spots. However, the pad also has a slight curve
that does not flatten to the stock surface when the screws are tightened. I have been told to place the pad in boiling water, then remove and bend the pad to flatten the curve. Is this correct??

Thanks for your help.

That's what I've always done. However, I've never used boiling water. Very, very hot, but not boiling.

I used the same method to fit one to the curve of the stock after removing a horn buttplate. Didn't want to cut it off.
