Good advice from all but please allow two more tips:

To locate the holes before slicing, push the screws in from the spacer side of the pad. The screw will force the rubber to portrude at the exact spot. While it's portruding, slice with razor blade.

Use two screwdivers. I use #1 Phillips, lubricated with Vaseline and don't remove them until the job's completed.

Never tried Brownell's recoil pad bits but I'll bet they work well.

Pawnbroker, I would agree with Cary and put more attention on the "cutting" part.

It looks as though you could use a sharper knife for the cut, following Cary's directions.

P.S.: The rest of the installation looks very well done. jc

I do like Cary with the screws to indicate the place to cut. I always use a new #11 Exacto blade and lube the heck out of the Exacto blade and surface of the pad before cutting. It should cut like butter on the Pachmyr pads.

I really don't like to put any type of petroleum oil (even the Vaseline) or even synthetics like the transmission fluid on a pad and frankly never saw the need. I use common hand lotion almost exclusively and it works as well as any thing else I've tried. The new silcone rubber pads may not be affected by hydrocarbon lubes, but why change my ways when it works?

I also heard that RIG was out of business.
here's an note i found when I Googled RIG. http://www.lesjones.com/2008/09/05/rig-rust-inhibiting-grease-discontinued/. I bought two jars from Brownell's a couple of months ago. Don't know if they have any left or not
