Your Williams and Powell hammer gun is built in accordance with J.Williams patent #1247 of 1875.A similar gun is described and pictured on page 35 of the "British Shotgun Vol;2 by D.J.Baker and I.M.Crudgington. At the time this book was in preparation,I was in contact with David Baker in connection with this unusual patent;because I owned Williams and Powell gun #7060 which is identical with the example currently under discusion and the gun ultimately pictured in Vol;2 of the British Shotgun. At that time David was only aware of one other example of this patent #7030. I would be interested to know if your gun falls in this # range?

Roy, I had a Williams and Powell a thousand or so under Joe Wood's gun. It also had that odd extractor. Mine, and a few others I have seen, also had a pierced toplever in an oval shape, allowing screwdriver access to the top tang screw.

Roy, mine is #6341. You are correct about the patent information. Oh, my extractor is stamped "Williams & Powell's Patent".
It does appear your gun is later. In "British Shotguns" I notice your gun does not have the dolls head extension and also the firing pins are of the button type. Very nice indeed! I would appreciate if you'd post color photos for all of us to oogle over.
Daryl, what was the number of your gun?

Joe, I cannot remember the number. At the time you let us see yours, I had the number and "thought" of it as being about 1000 lower than yours. Does yours have the pierced toplever?
