Hi all, I'm no expert at all when it comes to German guns, so I was wondering if you germanic lovers can answer a couple of questions on the gun below. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=115131572What do you think is a fair price for this gun, based on the listing? What is your general opinion on it as it appears? Thanks so very much!! Greg

The gun is a very nice ornate gun and , in that , quite unusual. The wood is of a type not usually seen on German guns and I would suggest it is restocked, but pretty. If it has auto ejectors it would be a nice shooter at under $2K. Half of that would be a good buy.

Thanks Daryl, if the the gun was made in the 20's do you think the chambers have been let out to 2 3/4"? If so, do you think the gun could take our 2 3/4" loads without harming the gun?
Thanks again!!
Anyone else?
All the best!
Greg

Greg, you're on some sort of medication right??? Are you kidding me, a Simson at $750.00 that's not a steal its out right robbery!!! Call the guy ask him to plug the barrels ensuring a 2 3/4 inch chambers and buy it!! The wood alone is worth $750.00 let alone the typical German built bank vault like lock up!!! I promise you this about a German built gun you will never ever be able to wear it out!!! Good luck

If it were a Buy it now or No reserve auction then no problem. That's why I'm asking what a fair price is for this gun. Thanks for the comments, I like the way you think! All the best! Greg

Great gun. A very nice example of Simson. One word of advice. That seller has no rating. I would verify they are legit before I sent them a dime. Everything else they have up for sale is just parts.

With the screws at the top and bottom at rear of reciever it is a boxlock with safety sears,(double sears), this feature is only found on the higher grade European and British boxlocks, There is not much literature around on Simson grades, to me it is comparable to a model XVII or XVIII Sauer. FWIW
Pete, the guy has been on Gunbroker for 5 years with 136 transactions and has a 100% positive feedback. I don't know him but how much history do you want?

Jerry,
When I checked before he had no feedback. I checked now and he has feedback. Some sort of database problem is all I can say... With that feedback, I would have no problem.

Pre-WWII Simsons are very very well made guns, as stated earlier it appears to be re-stocked and at the least a recent stock refinish, however it appears to be very well done.
I would expect to see a more ornate buttstock, if it were the original. By the Late 20s it may have very well had 70 mm chambers. Ask the genetleman that is selling it to desribed the chamber markings - that will at least give you an idea of what it was originally.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

i did not strictly speaking have a "simson" but i did have a BSW which so i understand was a simson by a hitler approved name. it was an oustanding gun as far as build quality. i couldn't shoot it well. it came from champlins for something in the low teens and i sold it on consignment there for the same thing. it was about half that coverage of engraving but had most of its original finish including case colors.
the seller does have a rating - 136 i believe - and all positive.
oh, mine had original 2-3/4" chambers but my gun was IIRC 1937 or 1939. even if it had 2-1/2" chambers that's not the end of the world.
