RWTFOX...MR.Fox and daughter. Need to jump in and clarify a few things. Attached digital capture,10mp, stored as high resolution JPEG and Raw file. Photo or (foto) shown below reveals the "Sunny 16" exposure. Notice little detail in the dark (pups and black duck) and shadow areas. Exposure proper on the camo and other middle tones. Ambient exposure reading taken with Minolta hand held meter. BTW, Sun close to the horizon thus changing the light spectrum as the atmosphere is filtering out the blue rays leaving the strength of the yellow/orange to flood the image area. Poor choice for facial tones, but gives natural elements a soft warm look. Probably can be worked on in CS2 if it was a commercial project. Intended use of the photo was to bring detail into (black) pups, so opening up a stop and a half exposure gave detail in the pups, duck and shadow areas. Doing this raised the (over)exposure in the balance of the image. Now would be a good time to discuss your daughters critique as it relates (or not) to Ansel Adams. AA used large format NEGATIVE B&W film which has the greatest latitude of exposure of any film type. Positive or transparency film (slide) has a shallow exposure latitude, usually about 4-5 stops between dark and light ends of the exposure. And then there's digital. AA exposed his images using a spot meter recording the highlights and shadows and then calculating his camera settings,(aperature and shutter speed)using his famous Zone System of exposure. You should study Zone Five of his system, you'd be fascinated. The images taken by AA we see displayed in coffee table books and prints are the result of his genius in the darkroom and his mastery of dodging and burning, thus having control of detail in every corner of his image and final print.
Before you step in it again, Look around. Everyone may not be as braindead as you assume. A quote from someone, maybe you know the author?, Said.... "I may not be very smart, but the longer we talk, I'm going to find you stupid about something."
Fox, Please note this was a staged photo, props and attire were hastily put together, as I was not expecting sniper fire. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be more careful next time.
Want to discuss camo and hunting techniques, lets go OT and chat about trophy whitetails and big bears. No guides or high fences. Sorry, I'm not up to speed on all the literature, quitars, and motorcycles.
BTW, my beautiful wife took the photos.
Fox, Get in the game, enough heckling from the cheap seats.
Randy
