What a Fantastic era to be on the Continent and to have been able to Visit all the Pigeon Rings (Clubs)and all those Shotguns Built Just to Kill Pigeons (and other'Tweetie-Birds that happened to be used as Moving Targets, Tho' I belive most of the Birds did get eaten!)Lawrence G. Barnes did the Shooting Fraternity a great service when he Re-Printed in 1987,"Pigeon Shooting" by 'Blue Rock' AKA Capt.A.W.Money. My Good Friend Carol Barnes,"The Gunnerman Press" Presented me with a copy at the"Inanimate Target Shooting Event" at sandanona, new york,2001. I think its a 'Must Read'for shooters who like"History of the Gun",I've been lucky enough to have been in the company of many of the Greats", Shot alongside them at some of the'Rings where Legends were made, had my Limey Arse laughed at by the Best shots of their day!Well remember Homer Clark&Billy Perdue shouting at me at the Dallas Gun Club,1973 I think,'You make mighty-fine Gun-Stocks, But,You Shure Aint No Pigeon Shooter!!!I touched my 'Forlock, and walked back from the 30yd line,we had a hell of a Party for the next day or two! (I picked up 3 Major ReStocking Jobs and brought a W&C Scott 12b 'Pigeon Gun' with automatic cocking hammers, so it wasn't a complete"Wash"...Tho' I fear in this day of 'Oh So I have to be so carefull if I mention that My Profession is Building GUNS and My Clients Kill Birds,Lions Cape Buffalo,Pheasants, Doves,Doves!!!!! Oh My God may you be Struck down and die a Horrid Death( This was last weekend, and we had been listening to their Salmon fishing trip up to Canada! My 'Better 1/2 and I know when the time to Retreat is.....Maine has become the North Shore Burb" of Boston!!!C?C

What you really need is East Anglian maize stubble and few pointers from Peter Theobald, or .... to Valencia Spain you should go! Lets make it sporting by going after a 'Woodie', shall we?

It was probably a "trickle down" from the gun making fraternity. The early shooting organizations in this country were funded and organized by the gun companies. The founding members of the Interstate Association were guys like Parker Brothers, Von Lengerke, L.C.Smith, and others of like stature. There are other factors, but this is one of them. DT, you are one piece of work. I hope everyone enjoys your posts as much as I do. I spent time at Chalfont and Hegins and never met Billy Perdue or Homer Clark that I remember, but I envy those that did. I was not in the loop, just a little kid following my Dad. Murphy

Joe, you can use 10br. The English famer will not mind, the larger 'Woodie' pile the better.

This J.V. Needham (Greener) was advertised as a pigeon gun. After some discussion on this board I believe it to be a fowler. The automatic safety is the only feature that would make it so. The 30"" barrels choked F/F with a flat rib, the 2 3/4" chambers and the weight at 8 pounds would suggest pigeon gun. I believe it was advertised as a pigeon gun because it has more appeal. The gun has extremely good balance and makes a wonderful fowler and clays gun. Jim

There is nothing shoddy about good 'ole Birmingham or Provintial fowler. They tend to balance nicely. PS. I looked at BLE with long tightly choked barrels, nicely figured stock, wide file-cut rib, POW grip, and wonderful engraving of ducks and geese in flight. If w/o safety and no ducks and geese it could be a pigeon gun for sure.

There is a Gentleman here in Maine, who has the most Wonderful William Cashmoore 12b DB Anson/Deeley Action.I've done a small repair to it,stripped it down completly checked all the 'Important bits". I would not hesitate to say it is 'The Best!. The History that is with the Gun, from Mr Cashmoore building it and presenting it to the winner of tha Grand American Handicap..I think it was 1900.I also think it has 3.1/2" chambers, I will go to my 'Unorganized File" Shelf under the Bench, I have a file with tha Owners pho.#. This really is a Birmingham built Pigeon Gun that is a gun worth 'Seeing' C/C
