Anybody else with an idea of values? Can I provide any additional information to help the more knowlegable among us?

I guess I would suggest contacting Wes Dillon at James Julia Auctions. They might charge for an appraisal but it would be a fair one. I wouldnt entertain the idea of selling them until all the research was done.

Me too. I have $, but to buy things like land and not rifles costing tens of thousands. Remember when that Texan went to India to rescue all them English double rifles for $50 to $200 each. Who knows what these things will be worth in couple of years, veeery scaaaary. Kinda funny, it's the halloween season.

I guess if the bottom falls out and it all goes to hell I can still hunt with my best guns. What are you going to do with a worthless deed or stock in a company that no longer exists? We all take chances. Buying high quality guns has been very good to me. Better than the stock market has been for my friends. I would be happy to give Mr. Vacollector an idea as to value offline as Mr. Lomas has offered to do.

Do whatever you want it's still a free country. Best of luck to you. You will probably be okay because these are not guns in true sense of the word rather they are objects de'art sort of like fine piece of Victorian furniture on which you can't sit.

I'd be interested in talking to you about the Woodward once you have established an asking price. You can e-mail me at notdisclosed723 at hotmail dot com, substituting the @ and the . for the words and removing the spaces.

They are all beautiful rifles. There's the better part of a child's college education pictured.

I'm sure you understand that it's impossible to accurately estimate values from a few photos, especially with double rifles. Too many variables.

A few observations.

The Woodward "Automatic" is not common, especially in double rifle form, so comparable sales aren't easy to find. Likewise original Fraser double rifles.

The Purdey is in a desirable caliber, but the underlever models won't bring as much as the toplevers do. Likewise, the side safety is very unusual, and probably a negative as well. Champlin's has a Purdey UL Snap Action in .303 in excellent condition for sale currently at $35,000. Assuming similar condition, a .450 No. 2 would be worth substantially more.

The Holland should be pretty easy. Haven't seen a Royal .303 trade recently. I did see a very nice .500/.450 NE Royal trade not long ago for $50,000. The .303s are popular now, but they don't bring what the larger bores do.

Depending on condition, I would think the Holland would be in the 30K range. I like to see some cc on the Holland's, alot of fine shading in Holland engraving which is lost not long after the cc wears. Your pictures aren't the best. I like underlevers and think your Purdy could be pretty special.
