RWTF, as reported earlier, Bill Tapply is dealing with a pretty serious medical condition. I expect he might've done something else with the gun had the situation been otherwise. If one did not need the full value of the gun, including provenance, selling it to the Ruffed Grouse Society in the mid-$3K range (basic value of the gun itself) . . . I'm guessing that would've raised a pretty fair chunk of change for the benefit of grouse and woodcock.
