Thanks folks for your thoughts on the needles. I have checked under the buttplate but nothing there. The shotgun shows wear on the front of the frame as if it was carried alot and the barrels are brown with just a hint of the pattern showing. Checkering is still mostly there. I have feeling this gun was ordered for bird hunting in the brush as just a few scratches in the buttstock finish but the forend is nice and clean yet. The barrels are 26" but I believe were never cut as they are a close fit to each other and the chokes are still long. Right barrel is in the range of improved cylinder and the left is around modified. Works great for me shooting skeet. Gun spent a lot of time in the field maybe a trappers gun. I would lean to the thought of the needles being there as just a place to keep them for sewing repairs.
