Thank you, Gents,
I had to find the book...
The diameters of the series of circles that define the shape of the butt starting at the heel is as follows:
5/8 + 1/32, then 3/4 + 1/16 bare, then 3/4+1/16 full, then 3/4+1/16 bare, then 5/8+3/32, then 1/2+3/32, then 7/16 for the toe. This gives a depth of over 5 1/2". I subtracted 1/16 out of each diameter and obtained a smaller butt with a depth of 5 1/16".
I am cutting a stock for a Darne. I don't know why I should use Purdey's measurements other than for the sake of proportion.
LOP is 15" to the middle of the butt with 1/8 added to the bump and 1/4 to the toe.
Thank you to Mr. Trevallion for this info and a lot more on cutting stocks. Had I read the chapter with more attention I could have avoided a bunch of mistakes.
