I was wondering how many BBS'ers are serving a bird that they harvested themselves this holiday. My Uncle Herbert took me out when I was 12 (a long time ago) to get the Thanksgiving bird and when my Aunt Mary saw what we had she dispatched us to the butcher shop for a back-up. It was a great Thanksgiving and Uncle Herbert and I enjoyed the telling our hunting story and eating ( at least some of) the wild bird.
My daughter harvested this years bird at Price Chopper!
Happy Thanksgiving All....

My fall turkey this year was a jake - hardly enough for the crowd.
We'll just have to muddle through with a few ruffed grouse, plus venison and a poached steelhead.
Happy T-day to all.

I'm sorry, but the "do it yourself" Bird just can't compare with a nice Butter-ball store bought Turkey. I fought that fight for years, insisting that my Spring season trophies would be the guest of honor every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Roasted, smoked, fried, or whatever my wife and family have finally convinced me. We still enjoy the wild birds, but I don't insist on inflicting them on the extended family at the Holidays anymore...Geo

George, i have always considered the wild birds to taste better than store bought and they are as not as dry either! Bobby

I agree with Bobby as to taste, unfortunately I had to settle for BB this year, actually Krogers "Private Selection". It ate rather well, but would have preferred a wild bird.

Well our thanksgiving here in Canada was a while ago, but just how long do you boil a magpie, because I got some of those rascals! We call them Ukrainian pheasants. The only turkeys around here are in the grocery stores although there is a healthy population in Southern Manitoba and there is a season for them have to use a shotgun, of course Mike
