I just got a grade 2 stock for a project gun and it has 4 tits (lack of a better term) that go into the reciever. They do not fit exactly but the stock is from a 462 and the reciever is a 444. My concern is the cocking indicators. The previous stock I took off does not have these but that is not to say that it has not been not altered from the state of the gun before it is not hard to fathom. I can easily make these fit my question is do these need to be totally removed or just fitted. Thanks!

Walt & Ithaca4me: is this stock going to fit? The most noticeable difference in the 444 and the 462 is the much more Slender hand of the 444..Is it all in the wood or are the tangs of the 462 farther apart??.. MDC

MD it appears to be just the Horns(Thanks Amigo Will) just the top 2 to be exact the sides will sit flush with reciever. I did notice the difference in the wrists though.

I got the horns to fit but I have a major gap any ideas how to fix just trying to mock it up before the metal goes out for finishing.

I am no stocker but it looks to me your 'new' stock didn't have the same drop as the old one. You can bend the tang up(might break even with heat) or re-head the stock.

Sounds like a job for Gunter not me. I thought about bending it but then the lever would need to be bent also and it might break as you said (my luck). I have a 16ga and I heard that the stocks may be interchangeable with the 20 maybe I will part it out and save this stock for something else. I will have to think on this. Thanks

What are you guys referring to when you say 444 & 462?

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

The 444 and 462 are serial number ranges of the guns. Ithaca changed the appearance of the NID's both metal and wood between these serial number ranges of 444,000 and 462,000. The later guns did not have indicators and substituted border line engraving for the dogs on the sides of the receivers. The stock configuration was also changed with the later guns having better dimensions/checkering, in my opinion, then the earlier guns. Hope this helps.
