I believe it was on this site many months ago that we discussed gun fit dimensions and someone posted a chart with various physical dimensions, chest, neck, height, arm length etc., with a guide to stock length, cast off / on etc.,Could someone guide me to the source of knowledge please?

Mr. salopian:
I received the following from Mr Dennis Earl Smith:
I am in PA for two weeks. I don't have access to my account with doublegunshop. Please answer Salopian for me on the thread of "Fitting chart". The chart he is looking for is from W.C. Scott & Sons. I sent a copy to Dave Furman and he posted it for me. I don't have scanning ability and I don't have one with me. I'm on vacation so...... Thank you. Dennis
There is no sacrifice too great for someone else to make.

Glenn,DES & Dave Furman, Thank you for your efforts gentlemen, but no it is not the Scott one.I already have that. The one I am seeking is titled 'Stock dimensioning' and feature a frontal view of a man with his right arm raised, bent at the elbow, pointing upwards, index finger raised. To the right of this illustration is a view of a sidelock with dimensions for trigger pulls etc., I hope someone can help.

Purdey catalogues in my collection show a, 'Physical dimension chart,"showing a man with right arm raised, the picture identifies 8 dimensions to be measured and recorded. In addition height and weight of the shooter are requested. Opposite is a diagram of a sidelock shotgun with key dimensions shown.Unfortunately there is no relationship between the physical and required gun dimensions given. If of interest I would be pleased to mail you a copy of same.

Roy, Thank you for the kind offer. Snipe Hunter, That is the chart that I was thinking of.Where is that published? Please note that the dimensions F & G have no correlation or reference data. This chart, and the W C Scott chart can only be used as a rough guide. It will require an experienced gunfitter to finalise the dimensions of a custom stock. There are so many variables such as stance and style, weight and mobility of the GUN and weight and mobility of the gun to take into account. I was just intrigued from a research point of view as to who wrote the above chart, and what was their foundation for the dimensions.Chuck in Holland & Holland penchant for sweeping the face of the comb and we end up with a real conundrum.

That is the chart that I was thinking of.Where is that published? I have a copy so I scanned it and posted it. I printed it a couple of years ago because I was curious to see how poorly all of my guns fit me. The image URL address is printed on the bottom of the scan I have but I put it in the browser window and it is no longer uploaded there. I don't know where I originally got it. If you want a copy I can try and get a better scan of the whole sheet and email it to you. Skip

Right click the chart and use your"save as" function. Then you have a copy you can print out.

Bob, Will that re-instate the missing F & G dimensions? I do not think anyone can drink in enough knowledge when they go to the 'Well of Learning'. Gunfitting is all very well, but you have to have a consistant gun mount and a defined style and method before you go down the route of a fitted stock. How many gunfitters have been badmouthed by people who wasted money having a gunfit when their money would have been better spent having a lesson?

Don't think so Salopian. I was playing around with that chart and LOP this afternoon. Wow! It gave me about a 16" LOP.....my normal is 14 3/4"-14 7/8".
