Binko,
I'd be wary of putting my full trust in the "measure the outside diameter, subtract the inside diameter, and divide by two" methodology. You are right that that can be good expedient method, but that method is based on the asumption that the bore is concentric. Many times this is not the case, either due to the original manufacture not being concentric or due alterations during a previous refinish. A wall thickness gauge is what is needed. They can be pricey but it is really the only way to know for sure.

Ken, I agree with all you said, but in this situation, he is clearly trying to save some money, and I don't think he's gonna spring for a bore gauge. If the method I proposed, was repeated for every inch of the bore, he could get close to the what a bore gauge would show. I know if I had a questionable barrel, I would check the entire length of the bore.

Oscar I plan to shoot the club party at the Shotgun Club on Barksdale Air Force Base Saturday. Stop out and we can look the gun over, be sure to get set up to get through the gate. The north or contractors gate

Bill Bill: I appreciate the offer. Unfortunately, my church (I'm a Pastor) is manning a boothe at our town festival in Greenwood, so I won't be able to make it. Perhaps we could connect at a different time.
