I recently had my topic shut down. The message was given to me by an NRA member at our club to pass along to my fellow gun owners. I assume I offended people or was about to. I always thought that preserving our gun rights was our objective, but I guess this is not the board to discuss it. So, if I offended someone, I do apologize for that and I hope you accept my apology.

Jimmy,

Your message is not offensive to me. It is a message that needs to get out so everyone has a chance to see it. The BIG problem is that these kinds of threads often deteriorate to name-calling, mud-slinging and anything but gentlemanly discussion. I went back and found your original post and within three responses it had turned into just that . . . too bad. . . but, I did copy that website to my favorites so that I can go back to it when I have time and read the NRA's position on the candidate. We all need to educate ourselves on the side of important issues that each candidate stands. I will do so and vote accordingly. I agree that Dave did the only thing he could have done as moderator and that was to shut it down in order to prevent the inevitable result. So, Jimmy, no offense taken.

I don't see any reason why you should apologize.

If the topic degenerates into mudslinging instead of a healty debate, then that's a reflection on those involved in the mudslinging, not you.

Also, it's Dave Weber's board. He has the right to run it as he sees fit. If he thinks the topic does not belong here then he can lock it and it's a lessoned learned for all of us not to post on that topic again.

I assumed it was Denny Crane.
Dave Weber has to lock down some topics as otherwise they're going to get real ugly in no time. He respects folks 1st amendment right better then most out in cyber space.

Apoligize, well not to me. I was not offended. Started voting for the presidents back in 60, had to be 21 then, have always been able to make up my own mind and respect the other position. I relize that the 2nd Admendmend is not the entire issue at stake, but to me it is a big one.

I understand why Dave stopped the thread, this topic on a gun site is the equivalent of the abortion issue on a parent's forum site. Human nature what it is almost guarantees the topic will go fairly quickly out of control and I'm sure that as soon as Dave saw it developing he decided to nip it in the bud. I have seen this topic go so bad on other gun forum sites with the results that previous internet gun friends turned enemies or they decided to just leave the forum membership.

In reality this election started so early with the primary race that few people don't know the candidate's views on the issues. You can't help but turn on TV, pick up a paper, or go on the internet without the latest development right in front of you.

I personally can't remember an election where I have to just avoid any mention at all of politics with so many acquantences. Used to be I could dicuss opposing views rationally with people, but not this presidential election.

At worse you were preaching to the choir. Post like that do tend to bring out the silly side in some of us. Real bad when we let it get in the way of having a good time here talking about guns. SO I think that you should get ten lashes with a wet noodle. It did not bother me at all.

Thoughtful and reasonable responses to Jimmy's message. Our board is better than other boards because consideration is given to the feelings of other members, as Jimmy has done.

Canada is currently beginning the second week of a six-week federal election campaign. At a party here last night with political loyalties ranging from red to green, conversation was all fun and gentle teasing.

What else with the hypocrisy of sand-box politics but to laugh---and then vote? Friendship is not subordinated to partisanship, a distinguishing mark of this board. I admire good men where I find them, left or right, tory or grit.

There is a new world order a'comin', in which timely subjects are rounded-up and dumped in favor of the habitual piddlings.
If the message is ignored - this place will become a black hole in cyberspace.

Look, we've been told once. More than once.

Dave graciously tolerated the Palin thread.

The O'bama thread was too much.

It is unfortunate that politics is tied to gun ownership/use issues, but that's the way it is.

As Dave so politely (this time) pointed out, there are other places for this discussion.

"Go there" - Dave Weber
