Brian, my dad was a Corporal in Germany during, and after the 2nd world war. He drove a halftrack. When the armistice was declared, he went on "occupation" in Czech, Austria, and finally Germany. While in Germany, with what little free time he had, he used to go out in the country and go deer hunting; as his platoon was short of meat. He and his fellow "GIs" would share their rations with DPs, (displaced persons) who were always starving. He told me about shooting a buck with what he thought was a standard full metal jacketed round out of his Springfield. Seems he chambered a tracer round by mistake. Achieving complete pentration, the tracer went on through the deer and into some tall dry grass, causing quite a brush fire. Soon a squad of fellow soldiers showed up to see what the firefight was all about! Caused quite a ruckus...........Said he didn't get but one steak from that deer, as everybody wanted a share for helping put out the fire before an Officer showed up. Maybe you can find some limited hunting in Afganistan.... Grant.

I'm sorry that you're going to Afghanistan's hotspot Kandahar where our elite troops have been in the thick of it for six years---four killed in the last 10 days. It's tearing the heart out of me.
The Taliban announced yesterday they're targetting Canadians to influence the outcome of our current federal election campaign. Our conservative prime minister said yesterday we're out of combat there in 2011.
No one I've talked to believes him. The growing casualties and sacrifices are admittedly attributable to bifurcated NATO leadership, Brave men led by donkeys. My warmest wishes attend you, Brian.

Walk in God's shadow Major-and thanks for your service and committment to our great and free Country- we owe a debt to all our Vets than can never be repaid--RWTF All The Way!!!
