I roast my own beans, grind them in a 33 year old Krupps grinder and brew my coffee in an ancient Mr. Coffee I bought at a garage sale for $2 (don't laugh, this is a pre-McDonalds coffee maker that heats the water up to 205 degrees). Great coffee for a fraction of what store bought swill costs! I'm pretty much the same way about doubles.

Well may be they're hunkering down where you are but I drive past Olive Garden and Red Lobster everyday and the parking lots are packed -people waiting out side to get in. Many in trouble are those that were the football heros and cheerleader bunnies instead of applying themselves whilst in school, wanted the american dream with 3 cars, bass boat, jet ski, fancy vacations and a house well above their means but bought one anyway, can't balance a check book but keep spending on credit cards and pay the minimum every month, expect the government to take care of them now it backfired, "no one explained it to me" attitude. To be sure there are some people in unfortunate circumstances but them that didn't get there themselves because of stupidity are in the minority. Back to someone who spends 1000s $ to dolly up the farmer's gun the guy probably applied himself whilst others took the EZ path, more power to him. CB

Lowell,

What would you do if you were out hunting and fell, splitting your stock? What if you accidentally scratched the piss out of your fading barrels and frame on a nice piece of barbwire fence while handing the gun over to your hunting buddy? Many guys who hunt with their guns, or their dads guns, or their granddads guns have experienced these kinds of things, and its unfortunate, but there are solutions, and its not always a 5K fix either. Really, an acceptable restock for a sterlingworth should not be more than 1500 +wood. If you send it out for barrel blue you can have that done for 500 or less. Color case will be less than 500, so you could be looking at 3000 max, and for that price youd have one hell of a damn fine American made workhorse.

I'm not as resourceful as you, Rockdoc, but it's the way to go. The company I'm in always makes the drink for me.

As one who spent many years in Washington, DC, I became very fond of M.E. Swing's coffee and I still have it shipped to me out on the Washington/Idaho border. In my many years in Washington, DC, one of the few times I agreed with The Washington Post was back when Starbucks was first coming into the area. The Post's food critic said "Starbucks buys cheap beans, burns them, and tells Yuppies thats good." From then on the cognoscente at building 213 refered to them as "Charbucks."

"Charbucks" That's hilarious! The $5 cup of coffee is brought to you by them. I avoid them whenever possible. I'm no coffee connoisseur, having grown up in machineshops where you stirred you coffee with your 6" scale, so I don't know the difference between a capachinno (sp?) and a latte' and couldn't care less. I only go to places where a cup of joe is reasonable. If that means I have pedestrian taste in coffee, so beit. I'm happy enough with some fresh ground Kona beans my wife seems to find in large bags or whatever else is handy this side of the bottom of an ashtray. That especially holds true when I'm out in the field.

My preference for guns is definitely aimed toward the high end beans, I just never seem to realize my preference.

I brew my beloved Melita brand at home. The only time I buy coffee is when I stop at Border's or Books a Million and their stuff isn't nearly as bad as Starbucks.

This old gun had a broken wrist on a mediocre restock job when I bought it. I didn't have any wood that looked like common A grade so I used what I had laying around. Is this a repair, fix or a fix-up or ...
