Bruce, I'm on board with your position on lenses. My explanation was intended as a laypersons term to describe large effective appeture, not focal length.

I'm about a decade or so behind. Use an old Sony Mavica floppy disk camera with a 3hr battery. I charge the battery about twice a year, and can get hundreds of flash pix. Since my IBM is about 12yrs old, and running win98 and dialup, it fits. Still takes fair closeups, and if I take time to get the lighting right, some turn out better. The shot of my "pimp" gun below was taken in 640 x 480 mode with shoddy lighting, flash, and hand held from about 9" distance. Due to the gun having the same finish as the bar anvil 8ga in the picture makes it tough. Shot doves with the above gun second day of season, and it did me twice as good as my 20 orion o/u the previous day. A delight to shoot with 2.5" Polywad vintager 7 1/2 shot and RST 1oz. 8 shot. I have tried Westley Richards 65mm shell with 25grm. shot, and they just strike me as too hot for a lightweight oldtimer like me and this gun. looking for 16ga nickled brass shells by Winchester or UMC to mate with it.

I was going to post this little gun in an earlier thread titled Possum Guns, but threw some knick knacks with it and put it here instead. Thought I would share a little of my collection of related hardware. Same old Sony Mavica, but does not do justice at longer range from subjects. Shot in 1280 mode hand held at 5ft, and resized 50% with very light crop. If you want to see full size try this: http://www.deadzoom.com/member/rdt/DeadRaibead/agroup.jpg Here is a cropped pic of the back action taken in 1280 hand held at 6": This pic is from about 6" in 1280 mode and resized to 40% showing the hammer of the 44XL double. If you want to see full size try this: http://www.deadzoom.com/member/rdt/DeadRaibead/aclose.jpg Looking for 4ga and larger shells, plus loading pieces for same. Also would like to find 16ga pocket closer.

I have 6 digital cameras, 2 Nikon, 1 Olympus, 1 Polaroid, 1 Leica, & a Fuji F20, and my go to is the Fuji F20. Reason, it does everything as well as any of the others, including the Leica, and most things better. One reason is the ISO settings up to 2000, which lets you shoot scenes without Flash and get beautiful results, great on "Museum" setting for pictures of guns, and at a price that will make you smile. Check this one out on eBay @ $99.00 New, delivered, way better than I paid 18 mo. ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/FUJI-F20-6-3MP-DIGIT...1QQcmdZViewItembinko

I use a Canon PowerShot A75. It is several years old and only a 3.2 mp camera. For me it is easy to use and all I ever change is the size of the image. I don't know enough to fool with different settings so I just put it on "auto" and fire away. I want to upgrade to the SX100 because I'd like to have the 10x zoom over the 3x on my current camera. That will help those pictures of deer at 300 yards look like more than just brown spots. I know there are better point and shoot cameras than the Canons but mine has always done well and I feel comfortable with it. Not professional quality but good enough to stick in my pocket and take hunting.

Ken Rockwell's site http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm is usually a good read even if his information is mostly 'anecdotal', I think it should be regarded as an informed and experienced perspective.

J.B. I really like your pictures. Can you tell me how you lit the different actions - esp, the first one?
I don't think the camera matters as much as the lighting, so I will be buying a mirror the next time I'm in XMart.

Jim, It'll go a lot easier if you skip the D76 developer and fixer before loading into the computer.
