I have used Collectibles for years but plan to switch to NRA's collection coverage. Strange as it seems you can work with the insurance company's rep and get a better than advertised rate from NRA. This requires some research on your part but if you have a collection that is worth 5 figures the savings will buy a lot of shells.

Amigo Will: Yes I am an NRA member but I have not looked into
their insurance program for some time.I have 24 years of commercial insurance experience and I am totally satisfied with the Core-Vens contract for my needs.I have found a home that I have faith in and will not shop unless something occurs that
would prompt me to.And NO I do not have any vested interest in
Core-Vens nor do I receive any referral fees or discounts of any type.I have referred them a half dozen or so friends with collections ranging from small to several hundred thousand and all have been satisfied.

Bill,

I plan on staying with Collectables but am interested in you coverage through NRA.

Is the transportation coverage both by carrier(UPS, FED X) and travel coverage in the same leage as Collectables? This part of the policy makes it a winner for me- I have several guns in process at any time and they ship to and from the smiths with full coverage at no more tha ground rate UPS.

Years ago, I tried to get insurance on my gun collection. After paying a hundreds of dollars to have them appraised exactly as the insurance company wanted, I went to my insurance agent with the appraisal and they wanted me to go back to the appraiser I used and have him say when they were all made. I would have had to start all over again paying him again, so I just told them to pack sand. (Try dating several Model 21s) All this took me days to carry them back and forth and take the chance to bang them up in the car. I did what they told me to do to begin with and they changed how they wanted it done. I realized it is better to spend the money protecting them from theft/fire, etc. than to try and get the insurance company to insure them. Chances are, if something happened to them, there is always the chance they would welch on the deal and find some reason not to pay me for them. They had their chance to do it the first time and they failed. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Invest in a good alarm system like ADT with a cell phone back up and forget about wasting your money on insurance. You'll be ahead in the long run. Plus, you won't have records of all your guns out in public, laying in some insurance office and on everyone's insurance computer for the wrong person to get ahold of and remove from your possession.
