Put the pad in the freezer. It cuts best when cold and you can get a fine finish that way. Also wet dry 800 or 1200 grit sand paper with a little water or other safe lubricant makes a fine final finish. The water seems to keep the paper from loading up and then digging in. Light touch and fast stokes work for me. Almost like a buffing the surface.
