I resent that.... I'll have you know down south we catch our possums alive and feed them awhile before we cook them.

Regardless of my earlier post(in jest),the opossum (Algonquian for "white beast")has a unique physiology. It is immune to the venom of the American pit vipers i.e. rattlesnake, copperhead;cottonmouth and dines on them. So,for those who kill opossums for fun,may you meet with one of those creatures that the opossum would have done-in.Also,the opossum is a very valuable research tool in Alzheimer's research. For the rest-----go Google.

I'll have you know down south we catch our possums alive and feed them awile before we cook them. Well, by golly, HoJo is right on that one. Wild opossums tend to eat whatever they can find. They're much better on the table after a two week diet of corn bread and fresh table scraps in my experience...Geo

Apperson,
If you think PossumHunter and I ever killed a possum for fun you'd be sorely mistaken. I ain't never killed a possum that somebody didn't eat, sometimes it was me and sometimes it was a friend.

I will never say that if one uses the resources of nature that the action is bad or wrong. After all, I was in the Tidewater section of the U.S. and the meat industry there needed to kill 22500 hogs per day. I helped to train the workers so that all was done properly. It is no fun. But,it is necessary.I simply am against killing and leaving.I take your word ,MarketHunter that you believe the same and use nature's resources.I apoligize if I have offended you or others who harvest and use the creature.

I once saw 3 possums run out of a dead deers posterior. Last muzzleloader season I walked up on a possum in the snow, and he proceeded to climb a deadfall and then play possum at eye level. I tossed a few snowballs at him and he woke up and bared his sharp little teeth and hissed at me. I said, "Possum, this is your lucky day because I really hate to clean this flintlock." I think my .50 cal. at ten feet could've took him, but I could be wrong. Any way I'm alive to tell the story.

Me and Market Hunter ain't too concerned about possums running out of anythings azz. If you Tennessee boys would skin them before you eat them they might not taste so bad.
