I don't. I've installed possibly 100 of them and like them very much. I use a 6" belt sander. If you're trying to do it all by hand that might be your problem. I use a B-Square jig to get the size and shape of the stock and then just do minimal finishing with a sanding block and 120 grit garnet paper, just to remove the sanding belt marks.
