I was at a local pawnshop today and they had a single shot .410 marked Eastern Arms. I've heard that Eastern Arms was a brand sold by Sears but I'm curious about the years they were produced. Anybody have any info?

Measure the chamber. The earliest American .410 single shot was produced by Stevens in 1915, as far as I can determine. It was a 2 1/2" version of our modern 410. By the 1920's the standard chambering was 2 3/4, by about 1930 3" was the most common.

I've never heard of a 2 3/4 inch .410-bore shell. The .410-bore started out 2-inch that carried 3/10 of an ounce of shot, then the 2 1/2 inch was added with 3/8 ounce of shot. The 3-inch .410-bore shell was introduced with the Winchester Model 42 and carried 3/4 ounce of shot and at that same time the 2 1/2 inch shell was upped to a 1/2 ounce payload.

Many of the early tiny bore shotguns in the U.S. were chambered for the .44-40 shot cartridge or the .44 XL shot cartridge. As the .410-bore grew, from the European 12mm, some guns were chambered and bored to accept either. Many of these old guns are sold by dealers at gun shows as .410-bores, but they are really .44 calibers. At least H&R was making single barrels for these .44 shot cartridges and Sears had little Belgian hammer doubles for them in their catalogues in 1905 and 1902 respectively.

I have no idea what the chamber length on this gun is. The only reason it got a passing glance is that it was in nice shape save for an ugly rubber replacement pad on it. It looked like it was an older style and if I had to guess I would say it was from before the 1950's. Just curious when Eastern Arms was producing these guns and when they stopped.

Have no idea when it was made, but my dad once had an Eastern Arms 16ga double. Except for the name it was a Stevens 311 style through & through. Along the same time I had a Central Arms 20ga which externally looked similar, but was the Stevens 315 style inner works.

I have an Eastern Arms .410 single. Belonged to my father. Original 2 1/2" chamber punched to 3", shot a bunch of squirrels, rabbits, and pheasants. Says "1929 Model" on the barrel, and I'm quite sure he acquired it pre-WWII.
