Real moniker is John Holmes, don't use it cause of some stupid porn star back in the 70s. Hes dead. Use popplecop because that was my proffession, retired 20 years ago am now 69 years old. Most prized firearm is one passed down through the family, 78 Sharps Borchart. My great grand father was a proffessional soldier (1862-1894) and it was his rifle of choice, others are any SxS with DTs.

Ted - You're on the other side not of just any horse -- it's your high horse, where you try to elevate yourself with gratuitous put-downs. That horse puts you in lesser company than the names you drop.

A display of double gun credentials has what to do with answering the question of who you are and what is your personal best gun?

The fact that Gunflint Charlie had a field-bred springer, and chooses to remember a great dog on this board, is all the expertise I could ask for!

Some take pride in the names they use here, some wink with them, some hide behind them. Free speech, free choice.

The best I've ever owned is a pre war Model 42 Winchester 2 1/2" chamber Skeet Grade #48,306 with solid rib and Cutts Compensator. Soon after I bought the 42 in November of 1985, my friend, Jerry Mouer, invisibly fixed a big chip at the head of the stock and installed a reproduction 1922 Winchester pad. I shot my first NSSA skeet competition in 1974, but have only used this 42 in competition when my regular guns break, about three times in 23 years. However, I have shot more .410 bullets out of this 42 than any other .410 I have owned. I have also shot more game with this gun than with all of my other bird guns combined. Of course, a few thousand head are seventeen year locusts that we shoot by the thousands with unplugged .410 repeaters in one patch of brush in front of our skeet fields. Even though this traditional shoot takes place only every seventeen years, I think it may be coming up again before I wear this gun out. Why is this such a great gun? Well, about fifteen or twenty years ago, I shot 244 X 250 American skeet birds with this gun in one day. I have never done such a thing with any other gun before or since and don't expect to. In 1991, my skeet gun broke in the second round of our state skeet shoot. I switched to the 42 on the final two rounds and broke 49 of the last 50 birds in a driving rain. Obviously, there is something about this gun that goes beyond what shows on the surface. For the first ten years or so that I owned this gun, it was a maddening experience. The chamber is so tight, any shell shot in another gun could not be resized in my MEC loader to fit in this gun. I had to segregate all my empties into batches, one batch just for this gun. When I bought a PW800B, I could finally load my shells without worrying about them not fitting in my 42. I haven't fired a shot from this old gun in a couple of years, but I guess it's time to get her out. Dove season starts in a week or so. My real name is Bill Murphy, and, yes, I also own a double gun.

Proving, for me and the board, that the conversation is more polite on the named side of the horse, are the un-named, above. It's a long way from what is available in the phone book to social security and credit card info, though the paranoid (or silly) choose not to believe that. Oh well.
Best,
Ted

Abbreviated my last name to save you all some grief. It is Katterheinrich. I am 55 and I would guess you could say I am retired. Best gun? Depends what for. My personal favorite modern guns are my Bakers for SxS's. Not in the Linder league, but I like them. Paragon is my highest grade, but one of the A's and several of the B's are treating me well.

I can understand why those who meet or have the opportunity of meeting might use their real names. As I’m more than 3000 miles from most, my real name is immaterial; it neither adds nor detracts from what I post here or elsewhere. My real name, however, is uncommon and a Google gets me 9 out of the first ten hits, most of them in my professional capacity.

Some others might post from their work locations, where an employer might have an electronic mail/internet policy e.g. Access to the Internet is provided to a user as a company business resource and should be used for legitimate business use only. It is understandable that some here in that position would prefer to "hide."

That is why I remain anonymous and why I have no issues with those who are of a similar disposition. (Provided they are polite and do not post drivel.)

My real middle name and last names are Mike Armstrong. My first name is known only to the IRS and my other employers; even my mother never used it, no idea why. Family secret no one ever let me in on; now everyone who might know is dead.

The best shotgun I ever had was an LC Smith Featherweight Field 16-bore with 28" IC/Full tubes, DT, extractors and a nice open half pistol grip. I bought it in a gunshop in Spokane WA in the early 1970s; it was one of the guns the US Army purchased in 1942 at the Syracuse Army Depot. It had been lightly used and probably was at the Air Corps base in Spokane during WWII. Refinished the stock and had a local artist refresh the checkering and glass bed the locks.

Lost nearly all my guns in some of the merge/downsize fun and games of the early 1980s; this was the last one I let go. Traded it for a new engine for my Subaru so I could get to my new (Thank God!) job. A very hard thing to do; that Smith was made for me and I made the best game shots I ever have with it. Somebody in Vermont has got one hell of a double! Hope it isn't in some military collection gathering dust! At least it got to serve me well in the Global War on Chukars!

Whichever side of the horse you're on, it's better than being behind the horse...or being the horse's behind.
