Graham Cooley's book "Cogswell & Harrison" charts Coggie models, but it isn't gospel - C&H was rather erratic in slapping names on different models. I don't know who can pin down serial numbers - but C&H has the old records and may be able to help.

If I remember correctly, the book has numbers by year. What is your serial number?

The number chart in Nigel Brown's London Gunmakers shows 1881, #10,819 and 1882, 11,307, apparently the last numbers of each year. The C&H book does not seem to have a chart of serial numbers.

Being that this gun is 127 years old ( 1881 ) was the Scott pattented back lock action the first Hammerless design at the time??

I believe Lefever filed a patent 229,429 in 1880.

CJ, This does not transfer well from a table, but it is decipherable with a bit of effort. It is a list of some dates/models/prices sold/unsold at UK (mainly) auctions. Hope it is of some use to somebody K.

Here's the problem with trying to date Coggies:
41099 1906 28035 1907 40967 1908 42712 1908 42126 1909 41196 1909 44230 1911 44121 1912
The serial numbers seem not to be strictly consecutive, with lower numbers sometimes appearing on later guns. Perhaps the sequence indicates when the action was completed rather than the gun finished. The pigeon gun #28035 is apparently a totally different numerical sequence.
So...good luck!
