Other things to consider when you are in a position to get a gun safe. They are better when concealed. And they aren't going to do you a lot of good if you have a fortune in guns and you don't have a burglar alarm system when you are gone for long periods of time. And it doesn't do any good to have a burglar alarm system if you don't have a back up phone system (either a back up cell phone or radio system)........ We had pictures on here years ago of a gun safe that burglars had cut through the top of with a torch. They either ruined the guy's guns or stole them. We couldn't tell which, but he had a 1 1/2 foot hole in the top of his safe. His home was empty for days and he had no alarm system. A hidden room or compartment is better. An ADT alarm system with a back up cellular phone system is great. If burglars cut the phone line outside your house, an alarm (via your backup phone at ADT) goes off telling them your phone system is down and they will call you. You need motion detectors and sensors on each door plus glass breaking detectors. Plus a back up battery system in case the electric goes out. So just having a big safe with no alarm system isn't going to do much good. You need an alarm system with either a cell phone or a radio backup calling device. Otherwise, don't waste your money. You are only partially protected. And don't think you're neighbors will hear someone trying to get into your house. Experience tells me they won't hear a burglar at 3 a.m. getting into your home.
