I hate to get into foolish arguments... we all know there is a world of difference between an athlete an Rosie O'Donnel. but, here you go:
Athlete: a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength
Now, if all it takes to be an athlete is to contend for a prize, why are we getting our panties in a twist over the Olympics when all we have to do is tune in 'The Price is Right"?

Foolish???... I don't really care about the condition of your panties, nor the 'price is right'. The people who compete in the Olympics are athletes. This is determined by the people who created the word and who started the contest. Doesn't matter if a competitor is the best or worst. Pretty simple for me. For goodness sakes... don't look up "Olympic games" ... it's even more frightening......

I never said it wasn't a sport, or a competition, but it's not practiced by athletes.
I'll offer my final proof - Rosie O'Donnel, with a little training on which end of the gun to hold, could presumably shoot trap. She couldn't run a 10K. Ah, but could the shotputter run 10k? All in good fun. Best, Mike
I am glad to be here.

No, but he could probably throw Rosie further than any of us.

Dam16SXS, you are Full of shit. I just looked up the Brit shooting team for Beijing and they are sending 5 trap shooters alone, I did not bother to look up the skeet, rifle or airgun teams, but they have a whole bunch going, as usual. Mike

Mike Bonner - Please excuse my ignorance. I never expected to be so insulted as to be called "full of shit" by someone who does not even know me. Once again, please excuse me and if for some horrible turn of events we should ever meet, please introduce yourself so I may bloody your nose publicly.
Unfortunately I was misinformed by an Englishman with whom I shot skeet last evening. Again, sorry.
Dean

I'm done with this thread. I'm off to watch some real athletes - the Binswangers - go for broke on Family Feud.

Wait - don't go. I am going to post a link to the Nintendo Wii Electronic Bowling Finals in a minute.
