Maxey and Jimmy, thanks for correcting my error. I guess one of you is right, or at least more right than I was. The USA Shooting website actually lists five trapshooters and three skeetshooters.

Jimmy - Ray Ycong and Lance Bade are not players. The rest you listed are.

All the Men's Trap Finals are scheduled for viewing on TV on MSNBC on Sunday. Exact time for your TV area can be found at the NBC.com website. Do a search for Men's Trap Final. I've got the DVR to record all day in case the info is incorrect.

Shooting Day 2 Preview: Diamond and Alipov search for more gold

(BEIJING, August 9) -- Two gold medals will be awarded tomorrow in the Olympic Shooting competition for the Women's 10m Air Pistol and the Men's Trap.

The Men's Trap will undoubtedly be the highlight of the day because a slew of top-rated shooters will slug it out for the gold medal. Australia's Michael Diamond has the chance to win his third gold medal in the event and Russia's Alexey Alipov can win his second.

In the three qualification rounds that were held today, David Kostelecky of the Czech Republic was the top shooter after hitting 73 targets. Italian Giovanni Pellielo also hit 73 targets but is ranked second because he hit two less targets than Kostelecky in the third round.

Diamond and Alipov both hit 72 targets and are placed in the top six, thus setting up a solid platform for them to snare another gold medal.

The final two qualification rounds of the Men's Trap will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow and will be followed by the final round at 3 p.m. The six top scoring shooters from the qualification rounds will qualify for the final.

If 33-year-old Kostelecky continues to shoot well, he could cause a major upset by defeating Diamond and Alipov. The giant Czech (he is 1.90m tall) came sixth in the Men's Trap at Sydney 2000.

World No. 1 Guo Wenjun of China will be looking to win a gold medal on home soil in the Women's 10m Air Pistol. However, the 24-year-old Chinese shooter will have to beat some very experienced competitors.

Australia's Lalita Yauhleuskaya will probably be Guo's main threat. Yauhleuskaya, 44, won a bronze medal in the event at Sydney 2000 when she was still shooting for her native Belarus. Athens 2004 was the first Olympics in which she represented the green and gold of Australia.

Bulgaria's Maria Grozdeva is another experienced campaigner who will be desperate for gold. Grozdeva, 36, has won three Olympic bronze medals in the event, as well as winning two gold medals in the Women's 25m Pistol.

Like too many things, the Olympics has been polluted beyond repair by politics, money, and the media.

Somehow, every time there's an Olympics held, there emerges a bunch of heroes.

After that contradictory pair of statements, what would be your point? By the way, I don't disagree with either statement.

They're not contradictory comments, as the second is sarcastic.

My point is that the media, and perhaps the public at large, seems to crave heroes. How can it be that at every single freakin' Olympics there are heroes? Gina Jones, gymnast, fell the day before the event and hurt her ankle - but as a hero would do she soldiered on and competed anyway. Wow.

I want to see some Olympic heroes truly worthy of the title - I want to see someone still compete after losing both arms the day before. I want to see an athlete jump into the stands and kill with his bare hands a terrorist. Olympic heroes come along once every 100 years, not every second day.

Deciding to compete when you lost your lucky slippers doesn't make a hero in my book.

I'm also sick of the concept that countries are competing against one another for the gold. When Milaki Wamabwa from Nigeria beats Oshka Mungani from the Netherlands in a foot race, all it means is that Milaki beat Oshka - not that Nigeria is somehow a better place than the Netherlands. But a person who just turned on the TV for the first time in his life would swear it's time to move to Nigeria after watching a little Olympics.

The Olympics are just a bunch of rich people's kids trying to beat out other rich people's kids.

How about a demonstation shooting event for 2012, "Stopping rifles at 75 yards over sticks". This young lady could go into training as soon as she gets home from Bejing. Are those PVC pants?

OH MY, This "what have you" reminds me of a Tele-funken-U-47 as good old Frank Zappa once said!

Even this type of shooting is outside of the law in England? WOW they are even bigger PUSSIES than I thought. We may not metal in it, but at least we can shoot in it.
