I looked at Winchester Repeating Arms' website and Galazan and was unable to find instructions.
Joe Wood is going to shim my big ol' 21 shooter and I need the directions on adjusting the bolt. I remember a thread where someone (EightBore?)said the directions were on the web but I can't find it either.

They get loose, usually I just buy a new bolt from Tony...You can also tig the old bolt. I have tighten about 5 of them in the last few years, one just last week.

It is not loose, it is off face. When Joe shims it it will change the bolt geometry also.

Mike why is he going to put in a shim? Why not just have him buy the next larger joint roll for it?

Cause Joe is not bright enough to change a joint roll. And, as I said, he is not too bright and he shims my guns for free.
After I read your post I looked at Galazan's website for a joint roll and found a joint pin. Didn't give different sizes but I will call them Monday and see. If it is a really simple job maybe Joe will be able to do it.

Good Mike- I don't own a M21 (yet) but have a 1938 Winchester Sales Manual page 40 says (re: M21) There is a screw in the breech end of the barrels, the head of which determines the depth to which the locking bolt engages the barrels. If the gun should appear to be loose it is merely a matter of turning this screw inward, allowing the nose of the locking bolt slightly greater engagement. This screw should be turned in until the top lever shows a tendency to stick when the gun is closed sharply, and the top lever allowed to snap into its closed position. When the top lever sticks under this condition, the screw is in too far and should be backed out just enough to prevent this sticking" There is also a cut away view drawing on this page showing this- So would Mr. Schwing's book on the great M21 also show this-why, incidently, answers (albiet from a Winchester-ian point of view- an earlier ? posed on this BBS- about closing double guns?? Huumm-RWTF

Just remove the pin, turn it 1/2 turn and put it back in. That will tighten it up.
