Here is another favorite. When I am not upland game hunting with an Ithaca, I sometimes take another favorite, a Collath Drilling. It's in 16 2.5" x 8x57.

Next project, Damascus and black powder hunting. Have lots to learn here but have a new acquisition on the way.

Beatiful! Is that trigger plate action? I notice how long the tang is.

Best,

Mike

Nice drilling with the horn triggerbow, sling swivels, cheekpiece and also with the wing safety you would also see on a Sauer & Sons Tell stalker. But I'm not a real big fan of the forward underlever. But this Wilhelm Collath(Teschner-Collath) looks to be the tipping barrel type.

Kind Regards,

Correct. It is the tipping barrel type and I agree, it is more labor intensive then top lever but I personally get a kick out of it in the field. From an engineering perspective it's quite interesting and functional but again not as "field functional" as a top lever.

Anyone else on the forum into drillings?

I did manage to bag a coyote with the rifle last year while pheasant hunting in S. Dakota.

Yes, it is quite an engineering feat. This coupled w/ the cailbres in which it was offered will lead to many years of service. In Alabama with a drilling. I've asked the state gamewardens about the rifle and was told just not to have rifle ammo on my person during non-rifle deer season.

Kind Regards,

Just one more I wanted to share with the forum... sorry if this is out of place.

This is a 20's vintage Miller & Val Greiss 16x16x 9.3x72r in almost new shape. I took a few Turkeys and a wild boar last year in GA on a really fun hunt with my 78 year old dad who got me into fine shotguns and drillings. He had a 4X bypass 3 years ago and I thought I would never get him back in the field after the operation. Doing what I can to hun with him as much as I can before its too late. I hope my kids will enjoy the time with me and as I get older as I do with my dad now.

Thanks for reading.

I have a Collath 12ga shotgun only, top grade, similar to the one above in top condition. Has all the goodies. Only problem is to try and put that gun together in the heat of battle-yikes.

I thought I would update this post with another Collath drilling I found at the Maryland Arms Collector Show a few weeks ago.

I was quite suprised to see the condition of this Collath upon initial examination. I guess the fact that both the shotgun gauge and rifle caliber were obsolete so the previous owner just left in storage? Anyway, it is chambered for C1 which is very close to 12 ga. however a 12 will not fit nor can be shot. The rifle is 9.3x82r which is an obsolete black power round used for hunting medium game..deer, hogs..etc. Neither round poses a problem for me and I will have the 12 operational here fairly soon. Bertram is currently manufacturing brass for the rifle so IF I ever can find time, I may take up the project...:-)..

Anyway, I know these arms are not for everyone however, I really enjoy hunting with them...along with Parkers, Lefevers...yes..I guess I am just infected with SxS disease.

Raimey, I owe you some pics... hold on.. I will get them soon to you.
