This 'conversion' was done in the 1930s. Ithaca had tried selling through some of their jobbers/dealers, e.g. Tryon in Phil, Pa. with out success apparently. (the guns were reshipped a few times) My supposition is that expensive double trap guns were out of favor but Skeet was the rage and that's how they were sold. BUT, I really do not know the answer to your question.
