This 'conversion' was done in the 1930s. Ithaca had tried selling through some of their jobbers/dealers, e.g. Tryon in Phil, Pa. with out success apparently. (the guns were reshipped a few times) My supposition is that expensive double trap guns were out of favor but Skeet was the rage and that's how they were sold. BUT, I really do not know the answer to your question.

Hello Ole' American. I really like this brand, matter of fact I'm contemplating purchase of very lightly handled Ithaca 'Classic Doubles' 4E 28br with Krupp steel barrels. Can't really go wrong as late US made one can be had for about $4500. It should hold its value quite nicely.
