I keep getting the feeling that Galazan doesn't provide gunsmithing services for guns other than Galazan guns. Anyone have direct information on that?

I believe Galazan does offer a Fox style rib that is likely pre-matted. Of course that would require stripping the original rib and fitting the new one then laying it. Not a task for most but maybe if money is plentiful for the project, it can be done for a reasonable amount.

For the price of such a project, you could have the rib stippled or chemically matted and border engraved, a much more elegant choice unless the new gun is intended to deceive.

A gentleman (?) I know has a Wichester proof stamp which as been used on more than a couple aftermarker M42's with Simmons Ribs. With the ofset proof stamp. the gun becomes a factory Simmons gun, rather than an aftermarket conversion. Caveat Emptor!

Simmons also used the WP stamp on aftermarket rib jobs if requested. However, a late serial number Model 42 with Skeet choke barrel that has not had a solid rib removed to install the Simmons rib is likely a Simmons marketed gun, not a retrofit rib job. The reason for this is that a late number Model 42 that started life as a plain barrel Skeet choke gun is not likely to be sent out by Winchester in that configuration because plain barrel Skeet Grade guns are mostly a prewar catalog item.
