Hi JB, your right is should be stamped but, not always. I don't know if there is a sure fire way of knowing - was hoping that maybe some one who has one may pipe in here or even picss would be nice. I know you really can't tell by engraving patterns either. A lot was left up to the customer as the higher grades were custom made, per se. BWT, look at the dogs on this gun:

They look like they are some kind of demon dogs or the result of some weird experiment.

It seems the spanish were a step behind the germans when it comes to engraving birds or animals!
