Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell what model is what with this maker?
The one I bought the seller says is a 12E, but how do you make sure it is or if it's a different model?
Thanks as always!!
All the best!!
Greg

I would think the model designation " Mlo ____" would be stamped or engraved somewhere on the gun- trigger guard tang or water table ? The 12 was one of the highest grades offered by VS - should be totally engraved including barrel wedges. Terry Wieland had picture of an 11E in his book - extensive engraving ( a few too many " pterodactyl(sp?)" ducks IMO - but deeply carved ) see photos in his color plates. best regards, JBP

Hi JB, your right is should be stamped but, not always. I don't know if there is a sure fire way of knowing - was hoping that maybe some one who has one may pipe in here or even picss would be nice. I know you really can't tell by engraving patterns either. A lot was left up to the customer as the higher grades were custom made, per se. BWT, look at the dogs on this gun: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...asqueta_sca.jspThey look like they are some kind of demon dogs or the result of some weird experiment. It seems the spanish were a step behind the germans when it comes to engraving birds or animals! Thanks again! All the best! Greg

Greg, a whole lot of game scene engraving is pretty cartoonish, which is why quite a few people prefer plain old scroll.
Other than the VS guns imported by Stoeger, I expect about the only way you can tell model, if it's not stamped on the gun, would be to get your hands on a VS catalog.

Hi Col. I agree. I'm not a game scene person. My Boswell has game scenes but these are very well done and look good....and real. I much prefer scroll.
Thanks for the hint on a catalog, good luck finding one!
All the best!

Those dogs are COOL! Do doubt intended to be an "El dia de Meurtos" commemorative. I would imagine there would be little game brought to hand by those fidos......I'm not one for fat field dogs but those pooches could use an increase in their Hi- PRO ration! best regards, JBP

GJW, I have a few original Victor Sarasqueta catalogues from the 50's and 60's. If you're able to post a couple of photos I can identify it for you. The 12E was the top of the line. It would have triangular-shaped engraving patterns from the standing breech forward about 3" on the tops of the barrels.

Thanks Ron, I'll try when I get the gun. Don't have a camera, maybe I'll borrow one.
Anyway, my gun does have engraving on the bbls and the action is scroll engraved. Do you know what other models had engraved bbls. BTW, my gun was made circa 1956-57.
Thanks again!!

Greg, there are a couple V. Sarasquetas on the Cabela's website right now: 6E and 12E. From the looks of the 12E, you certainly shouldn't have any difficulty spotting one of those!
