Is the gun worth $10,000 or is that overpriced? A fair price?

It might be but probably not.

Is it a Arrizabalaga best or a lower grade?

Lots of figures in the wood or very little?

What are the stock dimensions?

Barrel length?

Chokes?

Condition? (Any pitting? Case colors? Tight? On face? Dents and scratches in the wood? Repaired break at the wrist? Barrels honed? Chokes? Checkered butt or Pachmyar pad? etc...)

If you will email me pictures I will post them on this thread.

Replace XYZ with net.

Best,

Mike

Gomiata:

I have a P.A. 20 ga with a serial number about 1,200 less than your prospect.
The shotgun was from my grandfather and I am very happy with it: it has an original unusual choke combination: imp cyl and full (0.003 and 0.025") and with a proper spreader shotshell in the left barrel I used it to hunt quails (both, bobwhites and a local species called bannded quail) with very good sucsess.
I think all the Pedro Arrizabalaga shotguns made in that era (60´s and 70´s) have a similar good quality regard the grade. They are hand made and very well finished; only drawback is the "naif style" engraving for the animal scenes.

Now, $10,000 USD is a lot of money and I am not sure if a P.A. of that era worth that summ.

Best regards,

Jose

I bought my first Arrizabalaga in 1984, at that time they catalogued guns that they did'nt make. I was going to buy one at $800, and Garate called the local high school and a girl who was the daughter of one of the partners came and explained to me that If I spent a little more($1200) that I would get a far better gun. I did and have never regreted . I have seen some advertized in the past that they did'nt make. That serial number was before 1985.

'Best 2 Barrel Set'. Look at poor quality rib filing, numerous tool marks, rather poorly filed parts, large scroll unimaginative engraving including "stick birds". The folks at $abela's have a sense of humor. Mr. G needs to move on.

For comparison here is an AYA 53 two barrel set in twenty gauge for $7,000, also at Cabelas:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...erarchyId=11889

To my eye the engraving is better on the AYA gun and twenty gauge guns usually go for more money than twelve gauge. This twenty is exceptionally heavy.

I don't think the gun you are interested in is an Arrizabalaga best grade.

Best,

Mike

I’m not going to comment on engraving, etc., but in my view it is overpriced at that level. From what I see most US buyers would dismiss a 26" barrel, so that will add little to its value unless it is wanted for upland shooting.
PAs are beautiful guns, usually with great timber, but the stock on that one is not exceptional and below PAs usual standard. Cabelas does not mention if it has an articulated front trigger – it should have one. Their best guns inevitably have side-clips; this one does not.
I was very surprised at the price of a pair that came up at Holts September sale last year – it sold for £2,400 + fees, etc. (details below)
Smallbore who posts here buys guns at UK auctions for US folk; suggest you discuss with him if you want one.
Let the head rule the heart on this one and pass.
K.

At current exchange rates that is $4,800 for a pair of best Arrizablagas!

I would take that deal any day.

Best,

Mike
