I live in southern Illinois. I'll ask around a bit. So it is assumed that the guy had a strong interest in lefever guns and also old tools? Is that right?

Nothing about Lefever shotguns in terms of the communications I've seen. Your use of the term "assumed" poses an unknown - - You'd think there might be substantial interest in Lefevers, but there is no data. Of course, the hobbyist seller stated he was not a gun person, so one could speculate that the subject was not discussed.
Last, the hobbyist emphasized a high interest in Winterfur antique furniture. And regarding the tool issue again, the emphasis was on wood working tools.

O.K. Looking for a guy who knows wood, interested in wood working tools and Winterfur furniture. (And for some reason had an interest in a book of records from Lefever.)
I know just the person to ask, will see if I can run into him this weekend (Deer season begins tomorrow so no one will be where they are "supposed" to be.)
Can you think of any reason that someone would trade tools for a book of Lefever records if they weren't interested in Lefever guns? The book wasn't part of a lot was it? Did it have some unique binding method or cover material or something that might make it of interest to someone for some reason other than because of their interest in Lefever?
I also now a guy who frequents the used book shops - I will give him a heads up just in case the furniture guy died or something and his books sold. You never know, someone might run across it.

Take a look again at the actual quotes originally made by the hobbyist at the LACA forum that Fred posted here. You'll have as much info as we have.
I'm equally mystified as to the gentleman's motive for wanting the book. Who knows - - if he was a Lefever fan and actively involved in some of the pursuits we have interests in - - maybe we should be asking key members of the South Illinois gun community some of these questions, as well.

Many collectors are also traders and will take in trade not just items for themselves but for trading with other collectors, in this case collectors of either old books or old guns. So a part of this interesting and hopefuly fruitful investigation should go in these directions. - Jani

Yeh, the guy may have had a patron and he just got off the bus and saw his guy wearing a snapbrim pulled low anxiously awaiting the tattered ledgers at which point a black and white cat and a brown dog ran by spinning him backward into the path of oncoming traffic and he was smashed flatter than a dime by a little old lady who only drove on Saturday morning and kept it garaged the rest of the week and the precious fragments unregarded were scattered to the six winds of Legendaria. And then there's DT just popping by with wellwishes; took a few pix of Lefevers; lived in the Midwest. Hmm.

Update on a few details: The hobbyist transported the volume to new owner in So. Illinois; the materials dealt with the Syracuse operation; the subjects of the content were shipment, and repair and return related.
The hobbyist added there was no discussion of guns and the metting time was brief.

Good grief -- doesn't the hobbyist remember the town, or at least the general area, closer than 1/2 of a state?
