I was flipping through some old IGCo. invoices the other night and found this invoice for gun oil. The interesting point is the notation that this is the last of the oil "...for the duration." (WW2) As we now know, the product was never resumed. Thought some here might be interested,

2 gr. stands for 2 gross. A gross in business terms means 12 dozen or 12 X 12 = 144 cans of oil.

Two Gross. Ithaca oil cans have sold as high as $1500 but enough have surfaced to bring the price down to the $400 range. (e-bay results). Shooting today at the Fort Bragg Clay Target center but my Ithaca 4E Skeet is not lubed with Ithaca oil. Clensoil and Stos for me.

Walter- you live in Fayetteville N.C.?? Know the area and Bragg fairly well- I'm a "Damn Yankee" but sure learned to love Southern ways and cuisine- have a pal from the 82nd. lives in Waycross GA- like me, a real "Civil War" history buff-may be down that way,-if so, I'll give you a shout or a hollar!! You know your Ithacas. are lucky to have the papers and ads as well as the fine shotguns they made!

Walter, A couple years ago I saw two Ithaca Gun Oil can sell on e-bay in the $700.00 range. Neither said "Ithaca Gun Co." as the one depicted in the advertisement here. I had read that they were produced by a local oil company in Ithaca with no actual relation to the gun company. Do you know if that is the case, and if so did the Ithaca Oil Company at some point produce cans marked for the Ithaca Gun Company? Thanks, Keith

It was a total in house project. Chuck Smith remembered two ladies filling the cans and crimping the lead tops. I think it was essentially 3-in-one oil with a cedar scent added. I have a can, and seen others, that have a silver paper band covering the black band on the bottom of the can. I don't know when or why they did this. Without going upstairs to check, I think it said Ithaca Oil Co. But it was all in house.
