I have a Stoeger-imported sidelock 12 ga coming in, made in Spain, with no indication of who made it. It has no model or maker's name on it. Anyone know who made these? And are they any good?

Every one I have ever seen has VS and a running hare stamped on the barrel flats and/or watertable. Victor Sarasqueta. Good quality, they didn't make any junk, although did turn out low end guns like most Spanish makers.

Thanks, I will look on the WT when it gets here. I think they called this the "Sterlingworth" model although apparently that's not marked on the gun.

Mine is a V. Sarasqueta 20 ga. marked "Zephyr" - 26" IC&M sidelock with intercepting sears, DT, ejectors, splinter FE pistol grip stock finely checkered. Less engraving than the one shown above but in all respects a first class piece of workmanship. I paid $800 about a year ago. Rib marked Stoeger Arms Importer. These are a nice bargain because lots of folks don\t know what they are looking at. The rabbit dashing in the diamond tells it all. Chopperlump

If it is a "SterlingworthS" it will be a VS gun and it should have the "SterlingworthS" marked on the bottom of the action.

I have one of these SLnE that I use for waterfowl. I had Mike Orlen open the chokes for shooting steel, even though it is not a damascus gun.

In my experience with this gun I might suggest pulling the locks and checking the firing pins. Mine was purchased with a broken pin and it took me a few attempts until I made one that would hold up.

A shop near me has an 'Uplander model that's a VS gun.

The Sterlingworths was the least expensive of the V. Sarasqueta sidelocks imported by Stoeger.

PeteM, that gun doesn't look like a VS (to me at least).

As a reference here is a picture of the running hare:
