JoE, the leather streach looks very nice, but is that pad the size that you intended it to be? It looks a little big to me.

JOe, are you using Barge cement? If it don't say Barge it ain't Barge. I didn't know that until recently; thought it was something to do with barges. But heck, I used to think Paladin's first name was Wire.

Do you guys soak the leather in warm water before you fit it? I use warm water to wet mine and then I have a jig (I cut from a 2X4 which is smaller around than the pad) to mount the pad to and then I put it in a vise. I then use thumb tacks and tack it around the pad and hang it up for a few days to dry. Then the leather will shrink and fit tightly around the pad when you go to glue it up. I use the same method of gluing it as CJ does- cutting angles to keep it from bunching. I then cut leather into four cornered(pointed) stars to cover the plugs and then glue it on. Then when it is dry, I glue the plug into the hole. I use a small screwdriver to get the plugs down into the holes by pushing the leather down around the sides. I put glue down under the plug, that way you can get the plug to the right depth and the glue will hold it in place.

Joe, yours looks great for the first time, but the next time you do one, I would suggest sanding down the name on the middle of the pad, that way you won't have that little indentation in the middle of the pad between the plugs. But, good job!!

I use Barge Cement, too. It works great. Thankfully, there is an old cobbler near here that I get it from.

Cape Buffalo sctotums...was it fresh CC ?
Doesn't ring a bell Cj.
Rabbit the first time I used a contact cement this go round I used a thick type of super glue.
Tim I ground the sides of the pad down some but it's still alittle big.
Jimmy I'm not looking for there to be a "next time".....I prefer a hard butt plate but the stock would be too short for me.

I'm going to quit showing you guys anything....I tore off the leather and started over.
I offered a homeless guy 500 bucks to sneak in the Memphis Zoo and bring me back a fresh Cape Buffalo scrotem....guy came back with what looked to be a set of monkey balls.
