Montana:

Forty years ago, we drank Parkbrau by the gallon in Frankfurt. No idea where Parkbrau stands on the list of quality German beers but we liked it a lot- and often.

T.C. I loved Wurzburg as well as a young Lieutenant back in the day (late seventies), and returned for the first time about two years ago. Still a wonderful place. Returned to the Residenz just to see the Tiepolo ceiling again - magnificant. And Franken Slvaner wines only seem to have that special flavor when served in a viertal in a local guasthaus. The Frankonia Jagd there was my favorite, but the one in Darmstadt is just as large or larger and is not all that far from the Frankfurt airport.

If you have time go to this museum in Sinsheim which is about an hour from Frankfurt. The displays including airplanes,militaria,F1 racers etc. are spectacular:

The Schloss und Gartenverwaltung ceiling fresco is magnificent and the Mainfränkisches is truly a Franconian / Bavarian Museum .
I have not being to the store in Darmstadt but I will next time.

I noticed that the Pavlovian impulse kicked in as I read the replies.
Roast pork or Wiener Schnitzel , lingonberry jam, potatoes with parsley, butter and a bottle of Franken Slvaner.
Nirvāṇa.

TC,
Alas, no shooting this trip. Just sitting in a meeting room, although there should be some opportunities for good food and drink. Where in Ireland are you? I've been invited to go over to Leenane in late November for driven woodcock and I'm quite excited about it.

Cheapskate,
Are you telling me I should go up to some pretty thing wearing short lederhosen and say I want to eat a Frankfurter?

Many thanks to all, I have one day free before my filght home, so I should be able to fill it from your suggestions.

Cheap...are you REALLY sure that's what I should ask for???????

Kettner had a store on Kaiser Strasse, right down town, just a few blocks from the Bannhoff Train Station) I bought three Kreighoff double rifles there.

Munich, a fair train ride away has the German National Hunting and Fishing Museum.

John,
That has something to do with stress and being mad, yes? My German is a bit rusty.
