Dave I admire the way you run the board in an even handed manner. I dont see a problem either way you go. To me it seems a mountain out of a mole hill.

Amigo Will says: Hard to believe at times that the average age here is about fifty and we are supposed gentlemen of the double gun and the quail fields.
Thus it has ever been, Will, mah fren'. The names change, but the Commedia del Arte' roles are always filled. Mostly, such 'Net behavior is being recognized now as a compulsive form of psyco-pathology. It's not yet listed in the Index, but no doubt that the addiction process and dis-associative behaviors consistent with what can be read on forums such as this, are on their way to classification.
This poll would not be needed, were there not the need of the unbalanced sorts to dominate and humiliate people that they see as being 'lesser'. Refrain from responding [or even noting] the swaggering testosterone codpiece personality, the chittering inflated bladder whackers, and the rest of Mardis Gras crew. Then who would give a big rat's butt about the tiny rat's butts that force a site owner into this sort of action?
Oh, well, Will. 'same as it ever was', y'know? Fortunately, it's not our purview or worry to give a moment's attention to the axxhills of the world. Their own words most eloquently and publicly demonstrate to one and all, the personal lack of generous character and civility. How can you or I better that sort of a soul's self exposure? Nope, lettum go in peace, little as that concept may be understood in their self-important mind.
Cheers to you, as a good man, and cheers to the rest of those who abide by that simple old rule -- the "golden one." Pax, over n' out.
PS I voted for open comments in sales. Note that is not a vote for 'free speech'. That idea is an illusion in a commercial activity. This is a personally owned forum, and that person has every right to say 'what goes'. Fortunately, Dave offers wide boundaries for folks, to be and act as adults in a mature venue; one of noted scholarship and artistic contributions. I suppose that it IS an awful lot, for him to expect responsible posts and replies thereto from the users of his facility.
Relax; we're all experts here.

One thing I hate is when I go to my club and tell my buddies that I just bought a new gun and the first thing they ask is, "How much did you pay for it? How much did you pay for it?" I wasn't raised that way and I always jokingly, evade their question with stupid answers until they give up asking. It's no one's business. And it is rude to ask......... In this case I have to go with two people who agree with my thoughts as they usually do- Larry Brown and Daryl Hallquist. I think it should be up to the person who is selling the gun. Post it and then take it (the negotiations) somewhere else. It is no one's business to see two people negotiating a gun sale. BUT, I think that Dave should be paid up front for the ad, with a time limit, just like in a newspaper whether it is sold or not. You are getting good advertising here, like I said, just like in a newspaper. (Not because of Jim Legg, but in order to see Dave gets paid in the future by others who come on the board.) Let Dave decide how much. Other boards won't let you post at all because of the advertisers............... Also, I might be wrong, but I didn't see that anyone was being mean or rude to Jim when he had the gun for sale. I thought they were trying to help out. Maybe I am stupid. And it is a shame it had to come down to this. But, I don't think stupid comments during this voting are needed either. It makes the rest of us wonder if certain people were trying to be pricks all along. Teasing and joking is one thing and it's fun, but to continue screwing with someone just for the fun of it isn't needed either. It is tacky and below a lot of us.

I don't agree....this is not the place for pumps and auto shotguns. I don't agree. Aren't Winchester Model 12s, Ithaca Model 37s, or 870s and A-5s, "fine firearms and other related material"? I don't mind a question every now and then about a Colt Handgun or a Smith and Wesson. I consider them, "fine firearms" as long as Dave doesn't object. Are you going to tell some kid who has just bought his first shotgun and wants to ask questions to "go away and take your Mossberg with you" just because he wants to be on this board and talk to us? I don't think so. We don't get that many off topic questions so I don't mind them. I try to help people out when they ask about them if I can.

Well Jimmy, certainly that's true and the ads and post about Colts an Model 37s haven't gotten out of hand as we have been policing ourselves pretty well. But that may be partly thanks to some who stomp on the neck of those who stray too far. So are we to be critical of them or thankful for them? Personally, Over-Under guns don't do a thing for me. I could go out and start a Side-by-side only forum or simply not click on topics that don't interest me. I choose the latter and my lack of interest in over-unders simply helps keep the demand and price down for those who love them. If I had to wade through pages of ads and posts about AK-47s and 94 Winchesters to find one item related to doubleguns, I'm sure I'd be pleading for a total ban on the former here. I have seen virtually no actual negotiations on the For Sale forum beyond, "sold, if you still have it" or "e-mail me as the PMs' don't work", etc. None of the questions, comments, jawboning, or joking has hurt anyone with skin thick enough to chase grouse-birds.

Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug

You need to read my post again, keith. I didn't say that people should be allowed to SELL Colts, Model 37s, etc. I think selling should be left only to the double guns and drilling type guns. What I said was, I don't mind the asking questions about others guns. Meaning: I don't mind an occasional off topic question about them like people have done every so often in the past. If we got bombarded with them then, yes, I would say to cut back on them. But as long as others don't mind, I don't either. This is what I meant to say.

On the one hand, there's the spectre of the madhouse (Shotgun Sports bd) raised by Jim Legg and on the other the promise of the empty house (brand-specific doublegun bds). I don't mind if somebody wants a part for a snowmobile, looks at his friends here as a support group and places a query for help on the forum. I don't know what Dave "thinks" except that he tolerates the OT crosschatter. I don't think the FS section is the place for even the illustrious pumpgun, let alone revolvers, AR clones, and to include Jim's WTB Browning W42 copy.
Whatever the "consensus", the instigator of this show of hands is a good man and, altho irrascible and short-fused, is neither a clever Cassius nor a sidewinder. Based on clear thinking, articulate statement, and quantity of information conveyed (as Bob Chambers was fond of saying), Jim's experience and generosity are valuable and I hope no one here believes otherwise.

I wonder why it seems that everyone does not include their e-mail address in their profile? It would make contacting each other so much easier and eliminate many problems. I've sent three messages this week and still no response to a for sale add where there is no e-mail address in the users profile, it would seem to me if you want to sell something you would make it easy to contact you.
