Found a old 16 ga double I am thinking of buying. Under the barrels it's marked CHOKE 169 on both barrels.
What does this mean?

Are you sure it is not 16.9. Spanish makers often mark the chokes this way.

As Larry said. 16.9mm converts to .665". The word choke denotes that when built it had at least .008" (.2mm) of constriction, but exact amount not specified.

It's a Belgium gun. 16 ga.

Piper: You sometimes see the word "choke" on British guns as well. Is it used the same way--ie., barrels with a certain amount of constriction? Thanks!

Actually I believe after 1887 the word choke was mandatory on any British gun having as much as .008" of choke. It was optional on lesser chokes. The word choke replaced the "Not for Ball" marking which had been previously used on choke bore guns.
