Is this a typical latch set up on the barrel of this LC beavertail forend? The pic is not great however the lug on the barrel is rounded to fit the forend spring which is filed. [img] [/img]

Your gun is from 1949 probably third quarter. I'm guessing 16 ga. because I can't see the rest of the stamping. From the barrel stampings it is an Ideal Grade and for this year should have a roller release within a rectangular shaped metal piece on the forend. That is the typical fastening system for the "J" spring and the indentation on the loop is to hold the forend on also. The only real way to tell if this wood is original to the gun is to take the metal off and look at the end of the wood where it meets the barrel hook up, the serial number should be stamped in the wood there. There were different shapes and styles of beavertails.
Take some Oxpho Blue from Brownell's and touch up the tip.

I didn't realize that you had posted on the LCSCA also. It would be interesting to know what is written for "chambers". I thought it was a 16 stating 2 3/4" CHAMBER.

Paul's gun appears to be an extractor gun, so just the Baker-style J-Spring snap-on/off fastening may be "correct." It would be on a post 1936 NID Ithaca.

Dave, In 1913 Smith started using the Curtis push button release because of complaints of forend falling off and getting lost. So Hunter Arms started using this fastener on their non ejector guns. Stopped around 1919 (Brophy stated patent infrigment), truth is it cost to much to make. So after this date all guns from Ideal Grade up without ejectors were given the banjo style until around 1936 and then went to the retangular shaped one. All Field Grades non ejector were left with just the "J" spring and electrical tape to hold it on.

It says 2 3/4" chamber. Yes it is a extractor gun. I'll try to post some more pics today. Thank you , Paul
