I was at friends and a friend of his has a sxs that her late husband hunted with all his life (she was looking to have some one clean the gun up) we took off forearm (pull away like Remington 1900) and rust but surface rust, has one hammer left side (with a interesting fix to keep hammer from falling off) other side missing, Laminated Steel marking but looks fluid steel?, 30 1/8" bar., front trigger pull 13 1/4", right side rec. says machine made, left side rec. says Mears Arms Co, pistol grip, splinter froearm, Steel butt plate, hammers, top lever, if interested I have photos to email in group and med size fast down load. The wife is interested about history of gun, as I was writing down infrormation we got to talking and I did not get all the proof etc, but photo shows a bit ...... my e-mail lhoodarchitect@yahoo.com ....... Lucian, I sent you an email. However, to be able to tell much will require all the marks on the gun. You can view Belgian proof and trade marks at: http://www.damascus-barrels.com/bp.htmlPete

Lucian,
I got the pictures. The gun was proofed in Belgium between 1898 and 1925.
The pictures do not show enough detail to identify any maker's marks.
This gun is beyond repair. No money should be spent on it.
Pete

Hi and thank you folk for reply, I have some study to do, I will be back over at my friends in maybe 2 weeks and I will try some better photos and be sure to get all the marks, I gave my friend to give to lady friend name of semi retired gunsmith that may clean it up for her... she and husband lived in Texas and it was his life long hunt gun (thats his initials in stock Otis D., other side X ?) he passed and she moved to Los Angeles, the gun was stolen after he passed and recovered and she just received it, thus my story .... she is so sweet ... she wants it cleaned up (not repaired or to sell) and she is just going to put it under her bed .... it is interesting old gun and I will get those markings and post ..... the barrels still look like fluid steel to me but says Laminated Steel ? ......... tks Lucian
