Hi all, I've read with interest about this product for protecting case colors. I really don't want to use the spray product, but would like to try the brush on lacquer. So, for those have used this product, what is the best way to apply with a brush and not not have any runs, bubbles or streaks?

Thanks for all your help!

Greg

Greg,

It has been my experience that if you spray on a little at a time, let dry for about 1 hour, then spray on a little more, keep doing that until you achieve the desired look that you want.

I personally use Gloss B101-0800 and Satin B101-0801. I have used many different products and applications and Behlens is my favorite!

Greg, the brushing lacquer is formulated to be self leveling. Get a wide, soft artists brush and practice a little on convenient surface. Apply a brush width pass and don't go back over it. The next pass should just meet the wet edge of the first pass. You will have to experiment to determine how much to load your particular brush per pass. If you screw it up, just hit it with lacquer thinner and start over.

Never used Behlens, but have used a lot of Deft's bar top finish, a brushing lacquer available I know in a satin and gloss. Years ago I knew one gunsmith that used it to seal and fill the grain of the wood before applying an oil on top.

I have personally used it to finish several stocks and find it easy to use and fast. After applying a couple of coats, fine sand or steel wool down to what looks like bare wood and reapply to fill and seal. Then apply a few more coats but sand/steel wool lightly between coats.
