I am looking for recommendations (company names) on firearms insurance, both for storage at home and occasional travel.

Thanks.

NRA membership insurance is hard to beat and you can add on all you need.In the cases I know of these folks paid off right away and just needed a police report.

Check with your Homeowner's Insurance. If you trust them for your largest investment, they should be able to handle a few shotguns. I was able to get most of mine covered with a fine arts floater.

Try a collector's insurance. They offer blanket coverage up to your policy value. I have a Masterpiece policy bu Chubb Insurance. It offers blanket coverage up $10k per non-itemized piece with my policy value of $40k. Last year it cost me $171 for where I live in Michigan. The coverage is good anywhere including my duck boat and includes all my "stuff" from guns to cameras to cork decoys...

One could always itemize for individual guns worth far more than mine. The policy value can of course also be raised.

Farm Bureau Insurance Co. insures our house and they claim that no other homeowner insurance company is more friendly toward insuring firearms.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the replies.

I did check with my homeowners and auto policy agent. I did not like the questions they asked and the answers they provided to my queries. Firearms coverage seemed to be quite foreign to them.

I found Eastern Insurance on a web search, and will check their coverage and procedures,

I would have to second Collectables Insurance. I use them and so do quite a few others including dealers.

The value of your guns will determine to some extent if your homeowners carrier is a viable option or not.Typically these
carriers do not get warm and fuzzy over large schedules and their rates reflect it.I have researched a few of the contracts out there and several do not offer coverage on guns while in use
no matter what, shooting sports or hunting.Strange as it may sound they only want to provide coverage while in storage.I finally settled on Core-Vens Insuance out of Iowa, they are the web so you can find them. They have a quality program that can be adapted to about any situation and the rates are in line. These guys actually shoot and have some firearms knowlege.Call and ask for Tim,he has been very easy to work with in my experiences with the agency.

Collectibles Insurance is the best I have found. Easy to deal with, real coverage ( was underwritten by The Hartford- now Lloyds), and you can talk to a real person.

The transit coverage on a gun shipped by UPS, Fed X or mail makes the policy even more valueable.
