Just wondering what you guys thought of the color and overall finish? Sorry for the poor quality pics!

Hello Caxon,

Nice job. Do share how you got that colour.

Ok....i should explain now. I needed something fast and thought about it and came up with a simple application. I'm not sure how it will hold up and even if it is exceptable. But.....i used slackum with alkanet to color and fill the poors. Then i used a friction polish to top coat it. It looks good, has just enough shine, and i think it has the right color for a 100 year old gun too. All done in 5 days!

I've used the slackum before and it's slow and takes a good bit of time to complete right. But with the friction polish it cut the time in more than half. So......how bad did i do? Go ahead i got thick shin! Thick skin too!

Shellac is an original finish and I use it often for furniture due to its many desirable qualities. It is however very soft and won't, by itself, wear very well. I would recommend coating it with a varnish if you want the finish to last any length of time.
