I was at a local gunshop this afternoon and they have a SKB 600 12 ga. sitting on their rack. Were there different grades to these guns? This one has no markings externally on the barrels, or when I removed the forearm, under them. The receiver has pretty much full coverage heavy scroll engraving and the only markings are CF735XX. It has some wear but is a pretty shotgun, they are asking about $450 for it, does this seem reasonable? Any idea when they were made?

I have a Ithaca 20ga MD. 600 that was made by SKB. This one has a blued reciever and a vent rib. Bought it a few years back for $400. Only thing I did was have the barrels reblued. That cost $100.

Saw a couple on display at the gun show here in Jacksonville, Fl this weekend. The 20ga was more than the 12ga ( I don't know why. )The 12 I saw was in good shape and the guy wanted, if I remember correctly, $700. The 20, which had aftermarket chokes installed, was a little more. Don't know if they sold them or for how much they went.

The one I have has a short stock that fits my wife and SK-SK barrels. Light and shoots good.

The 600's that I have seen on the net all look newer than this one and the blueing also looks different, this one appears to have a nice rust blue on it. The engraving also looks considerably different on this one, it's heavier for one thing, and also looks like it has more coverage. Also, there really are no markings, other than the tag they have on it, I really wouldn't be able to tell what it is. The barrel has absolutely no visible markings. I am tempted by it, but I would like to learn a bit more about it.

I went back and looked at this gun today and noticed that it has a slight bulge in the bottom barrel just below the forestock. I tried to get them to go down to $400, but they wouldn't budge. It is an interesting gun and has pretty decent engraving to boot. Does anyone know when they started making these? I'm guessing that the lack of markings on the barrel and oil finished stock would seem to indicate that it is an early model.

If there is a problem with the lower barrel, pass!!!! I own many of these SKBs and they will take a beating. It would take alot to damage a barrel on these. You can get a very good one for $750-1,000 almost anywhere. SKB guns are very good shotguns. Frank
